Since its establishment in 2008, Te Ipukarea has been responding to the demand to provide quality, innovative language learning resources to the Māori language community in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The Te Whanake range of integrated Māori language learning resources is recognised internationally by organisations such as Apple, as pioneering the use of web, App, and other technologies in language revitalisation and in facilitating distance and interactive mobile learning across widespread communities.

The Te Whanake online resources include modules of animated movies and associated activities, podcasts of listening and speaking activities, streamed television programmes for developing listening comprehension skills, the Te Whanake app for learning Māori, and the television series Tōku Reo with online activites for further practice.
