TE REO O TE PĀ HARAKEKE

Te Reo o te Pā Harakeke is a research project of a largely qualitative nature that seeks to understand the factors that contribute to successful intergenerational transmission of the Māori language in the home. The home includes related environments that families function in such as the supermarket, beach, playground, swimming pool, etc.

The distinctive element of this project is the focus on the most effective strategies, methods, and resources in establishing and maintaining the Māori language as the first language in the home with the intention of raising Māori speaking children, and providing empirical evidence on the various challenges and barriers that exist while ensuring that the Māori language retains its prominent place in the homes of Māori-speaking parents.
